To celebrate the museum's 35th anniversary, we hosted a children's parade on May 28 to kick of our summer programming and our new Dinosaurs: Dawn of the Ice Age exhibit. So naturally, with any outdoor event, it rained.
Being as it wasn't a torrential downpour, we soldiered on and marched in the sprinkle. We had 640 people register to march in the parade, but I think the rain scared some of them away :) We had fun anyway!
This is Recycle-saurus, a dinosaur our team made completely out of recycled materials during Earth Week in April! He got to march in the parade, of course, to welcome the rest of the dinosaurs to Omaha.
We also had two drill teams/drum corps march in our parade and perform for our parade-goers. A big thank you to the Stepping Saints and the Phaz Dis Dragons! They were great and really added some life to our parade.
Our parade route was roughly 3 blocks long, ending in the museum's parking lot. To commemorate the anniversary, we had 35 volunteer families shoot off 35 soda geysers (Diet Coke and Mentos style!).
Getting set for the geyser launch.
3-2-1 GO!
I felt like it was a pretty successful parade (having never planned a parade before)! Summer is here, and events here at the museum are of course off to a running start! Happy 35th Anniversary, Omaha Children's Museum!
